Print-on-Demand SEO: Keyword Research

Getting website traffic is at the top of mind for any ecommerce business owner, as people won’t find your online store out of the blue. To reach new customers, you need to beat Google’s algorithm. That’s why you need to enter the magnificent world of SEO.

But what is SEO?

SEO, or Search Engine Optimization, is a set of actions that improve a website’s positioning in the search results of Google, Bing… even Amazon and eBay! Basically, it ranks websites so people can easily find what they are looking for. And yes, you can affect how your website is ranking by having a solid SEO strategy.

Instead of throwing at you different SEO terms, let's focus on one of the basics: keyword research. One of the simplest things you can do for your print-on-demand store SEO.

So take a seat, grab your notebook, and learn how to find the right keywords for your POD business.

How to find the right keywords for your ecommerce website

A keyword is a word or sentence typed into search engines. The main focus of keyword research is to generate content to increase website traffic, all based on what your potential customers search online. It will help you find the right terms to reach your next customers.

Here’s how to start your keyword research:

  1. Identify relevant topics for your business

First of all, you need to think about the print-on-demand products you sell. Brainstorm what kind of questions your customers might have and which products they will buy. What are they looking for? How do they search for it?

Let's say you are selling print-on-demand shirts for cat lovers. They may be searching for terms such as “cat shirts” or “shirts with cats”. List all the terms you can think your customers would use to find your products.

  1. Find related searches

As you create your keywords list, you can search those terms to see how popular they are.

Write the keyword (for example, “cat shirts”), and note of the words that appear in Google Suggest. Maybe you’ll see new words and sentences like “cat shirts for women”, “cat shirts for men”, “funny cat shirts”, etc. All of them could be keywords for your products!

You can also scroll down to the end of the page to see the related searches. These will also give you more ideas about popular keywords you can use on your e-commerce site.

Important: Remember to choose only the keywords that truly match your products, target audience, and print-on-demand store.

  1. Use keyword research tools

Many platforms can help you during your keyword research. Some of the most popular ones are:

This free tool gives you information straight from Google, turning it into one of the most accurate tools of all. It also shows you the monthly volume for every keyword. You just need to open a free Google Ads account to use it.

SEMrush offers a complete package for improving your site SEO. Apart from checking the monthly volume, you can also analyze a full list of your competitor’s keywords rankings and see what is best for your business. This is a paid tool, but is totally worth it!

This tool will show how many times a keyword is searched on Google every month. With it, you can prioritize your list, and it will also give you new keyword suggestions that you consider.
